As a visual tool in digital color equipment, LCD display plays an irreplaceable role. With the development of modern electronic technology, the color performance of the display has been continuously improved, and it can simulate the real effect of the scene. Not only that, with the development of network technology, color images as an information carrier have attracted more and more people's attention, and people's requirements for the visual effects of graphic images are also getting higher and higher. The display is an input and output device in a computer system and an important part of the image processing system. The display effect of its color directly affects the reproduction quality of the color image. Therefore, it is also necessary to analyze and study the color characteristics of displays in the field of image processing. With its thin body, low energy consumption, and low radiation, LCD displays have been widely used not only in the office field but also in professional image processing and design fields. With the development of technology, the trend of eventually replacing CRT displays is irresistible.

The Importance and Status Parameters of Monitor Calibration

Main parameters for evaluating display performance

The Importance and Status Parameters of Monitor Calibration

The LCD display is a window to the digital color world, providing the most convenient way to observe color images and graphic images. However, the color reproduction of the monitor will change over time, so the monitor should be calibrated and debugged regularly during use; the monitor used for color processing of graphic images and soft proofing of the screen should be by the ISO standard. Periodic calibration is performed to ensure that the color display is as accurate and true as possible. Before the LCD display is calibrated, its working state must be adjusted. As a color expression tool, each primary color light quantity of the display has a certain brightness range (dynamic density range), the tone relationship of brightness performance, and the maximum brightness formed by mixing. The photometric and chromatic properties of bright whites (called white points), the specific measurable performance indicators are:

(1) The brightness of the white point of LCD display: that is, the brightness of white light formed by mixing the maximum light intensities of red, green, and blue three colors, usually expressed in the photometric unit "candela/square meter;

(2) The color of the LCD displays white point: expressed in color temperature, the unit is Kelvin, usually set to the color temperature of the standard illuminant D65.

(3) LCD display gamma coefficient: expressed by Gamma value. By adjusting these three main performance indicators, the working state of the monitor can be changed, to achieve the ideal color display effect.

Main parameters for evaluating display performance

The ISO 12646 international standard specifies the relevant standards for professional image processing LCD display performance. These include display uniformity, focus performance, refresh rate, color, resolution, brightness, and more.

(1) Display uniformity index: when displaying a uniform white, black, or color image, the display should be visually uniform; that is, the brightness difference of all measurement points on the LCD display relative to the center point should be within 5 Within %, at least within 10%, there should be no obvious visual non-uniformity in these areas.

(2) Accuracy of displayed colors: There are tens of thousands of colors in nature, which are very rich, and each display device expresses colors according to its own color space and corresponding medium, so the displayed colors may be different from the real scene deviated.

(3) Display color gamut range: it refers to the range area formed by the number of colors that can be expressed by LCD display, and also refers to the color range that can be expressed by specific media.
